Analyse the changes brought by the growth of tourism in the country

Socio-cultural

POSITIVE:

With the growth of tourism in Taiwan, it has brought both positive and negative socio-cultural impact.

Firstly, Tourism has help in promoting as well as preserving the culture and tradition of the indigenous groups of Taiwan. An example is the Qingshui Zushi Temple. The preservation of the temple which has significant meaning as mentioned in my previous under Culture were being preserved.

Next, the importance of preserving the indigenous group is also gradually being recognised. This is also being evident by the fact that the government in Taiwan has officially recognise 14 indigenous tribe in Taiwan.

Lastly, revitalising the tradition by emphasising the celebration of the traditional festival and ceremonies are also done to increase in sustaining the culture tourism in Taiwan. Significant festival like the Lantern Festival is celebrated in many parts of Taiwan by having many lighted lanterns displayed.

NEGATIVE:

The negative impact of tourism is none other than the diluting of culture in the society. This can be evident from the Western and Japan cultures infiltrating to Taiwan. Having more and more foreign culture being brought in to Taiwan, in the near future, Taiwan may loss its uniqueness.

Economic

POSITIVE:

Firstly, the positive impact of tourism in economic is gaining more revenue for the country. Taiwan being popular in Hot Springs, Shopping and rich in culture has attracted many tourists in coming in every year. These tourists will thus spend money in Taiwan for shopping and for leisure purposes, therefore, in turn it will contribute to the economy in Taiwan and hence increasethe standard of living in Taiwan.

Secondly, as Taiwan is a popular tourist destination among the Asia, many investors and foreign companies are willing to inject huge amount into Taiwan economy. An example would be the E-united group that is mention in my previous post.

Technological

POSITIVE:

In order to accommodate tourist travelling around Taiwan, better infrastructure are built. Example are like the Taiwan High Speed Railway and the MRT. These transportation will benefit tourist and at the same time benefitting the locals in travelling.

Environmental

POSITIVE:

As eco tourism being an important factor in tourism industry, many countries have practice ‘go green’. Not being an exception, Taiwan is also promoting Eco Tourism. Besides boosting revenue and attracting more visitors to Taiwan, by practising Eco Tourism, Taiwan is protecting its environment.

NEGATIVE:

Undeniable that with more tourism growth in Taiwan, there deemed to be negative impact brought to the country. Common negative impact to the environment is air pollution. Having more infrastructure built to accommodate tourist needs will lead to degradation of the natural habitat and the air.
